Winter of Fire by Sherryl Jordan

Book number two :D

Summary: Living in treeless mountains under cold perpetual clouds, human society has split into two classes: the autocratic Chosen and the despised Quelled, who mine the coal that's the only available source of heat. To general consternation, the ruling Firelord has picked Elsha, an angry Quelled teenager, as his new and only Handmaid; she vows to better the lot of her people, though it means battling centuries of prejudice.

Here's another summary

Elsha is a young girl living in a bleak, cold future where worldwide cloud cover has permanently blocked out the sun. Humans have split into two classes - the Chosen and the Quelled, of which Elsha is the latter. The Quelled are doomed to spend their lives in servitude to the Chosen mining "firestones" - the only means of warmth on the planet. A rebellious girl, Elsha causes trouble for herself - even going so far as being considered for execution - until she is made the unprecedented heir to the Firelord - the leader of the Chosen. Elsha uses this unlikely position to fight the stigma and oppression of her people, eventually inheriting the title for herself and changing the course of the planet's history for the better.

Personally, I don't think either of these summaries are very good but they'll have to do.

Personal Review: Alright so basically this is one of my all time favorite books. I remember the first time I saw it in the library. I picked it up and opened it up when I noticed an envelope inside of it. The envelope had a birthday card with 100 dollars in it. Haha. That was awesome. I was a good girl though and gave the card (and the money) to the librarian and she found the rightful owner. I did get a 25 dollar gift card to borders out of the whole thing though :D

SO ANYWAYS, The plot line in itself is so interesting! I absolutely love the story! It's very unique I think. I haven't really come across anything like this book before. I highly highly recommend it :D

The Count of Monte Cristo

I suppose I'll put my number one book at the moment, just to hold you guys over until I get the rest up.

The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas

Summary: (Courtesy of Wikipedia ^^) The Count of Monte Cristo (French: Le Comte de Monte-Cristo) is an adventure novel by Alexandre Dumas. It is often considered, along with The Three Musketeers, as Dumas' most popular work. It is also among the highest selling books of all time. The writing of the work was completed in 1844. Like many of his novels, it is expanded from the plot outlines suggested by his collaborating ghostwriter Auguste Maquet.[1]

The story takes place in France, Italy, islands in the Mediterranean and the Levant during the historical events of 1815–1838 (from just before the Hundred Days through the reign of Louis-Philippe of France). The historical setting is a fundamental element of the book. It is primarily concerned with themes of hope, justice, vengeance, mercy, forgiveness and death, and is told in the style of an adventure story.

Edmond Dantès, a handsome, promising young sailor, skillfully docks the three-masted French ship, the Pharaon, in Marseilles after its captain died en route home. As a reward, Dantès is promised a captainship, but before he can claim his new post and be married to his fiancée, Mercédès', a conspiracy of four jealous and unsavory men arrange for him to be seized and secretly imprisoned in solitary confinement in the infamous Chateau d'If, a prison from which no one has ever escaped.

Thoughts: I personally think that if you read any more into the summary, it would give a lot of it away. I hardly knew anything about the book when I first read it other than the fact that it's about revenge and such. If you want to read more about it http://www.cliffsnotes.com/WileyCDA/LitNote/The-Count-of-Monte-Cristo-About-the-Novel-A-Brief-Synopsis.id-66,pageNum-2.html
That's probably the best place to go.

Personal Review: So basically, I'm usually not much of a sucker for classics. I only read this book because of my mother who vehemently insisted that I read it. I got about 5 pages in, and already I was hooked. The way it's written, the depth of the characters, the intensity of the plot! This is by far the best book I have ever read! I honestly could not put it down. It's very long, yes, but even after the 1800 or so pages, I was left wanting more. All I can say is that The Count of Monte Cristo is simply amazing. I'm even planning on reading it again! Now me saying I want to re read a classic, that's something.

Introduction

Aren't intro posts just lovely? They say so much and yet... so little.

Well basically this blog shall be the place where I track all of my favorite books, complete with summaries and my own review of the book (no spoilers of course :))

I must warn you, it will take me a while to complete my list but I will get there eventually! As of now, I am much too stressed with school and such so I fear you may have to wait a bit for the books to actually appear on my blog.

Oh and for all you random curious folks, the Blog title, "Les Petites Décès dans les Lits Musicaux" means Little Deaths in Musical Beds. This is one of my FAVORITE lines from Panic at the Disco's new album, Pretty. Odd. (don't you just love the periods?)

Well I fear I must be off. Here ends my lovely introduction.
